I truly believe one of the most important parts of blogging is supporting other bloggers.
With that in mind, I’ve started a monthly series where I will feature a different blogger each time so you can all get to know some of my favourite people to follow!
Introduce yourself and your blog!
Hello, I’m Lindsay and I blog primarily about my mental health journey at seedsinthewasteland.co.uk. Sometimes I also write about my vegan lifestyle, but mainly I use my very small platform to be sweary and unfunny on twitter.
Why did you start your blog?
I started my blog after I lost my second job in a row last year. My mental health was poor (to put it mildly) and I realised I needed to take a step back from the life I was forcing myself to live. Writing a blog was extremely therapeutic for me and helped me to feel connected to my own struggles. It gave me a sense of accountability to myself and accomplishment when people actually read what I had to say.
How would you describe your blogging style?
Sporadic! I used to post weekly but that’s completely gone to shit. Still, when I do post I’d say I’m honest, reflective, and occasionally a bit funny.
What is your favourite post that you’ve ever written and why?
I think it has to be Dear Men really. The response I got to that was amazing and I’m really proud of it as a post. It’s not perfect by any means, but it expresses some important thoughts and I hope it helped at least one man understand.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve got to share about blogging?
Do it for yourself first and others second. Trying to get a blog out there is consistent hard work. I admire those who get regular readers and decent site views, but I don’t have what it takes to hustle that hard. Write because you love it, don’t worry about the stats.
What is your favourite thing about yourself?
Erm… My ability to be horrible to men on the internet? No, really I think it’s my resilience. I’ve fought quite hard against my illness and to get the treatment I’ve needed, and I’m proud of that.
What is your favourite self care activity?
Oh gosh. I think I’m probably quite poor at self care, but sitting and laughing at stupid TV with my partner always helps. Spending time with friends and/or animals. Doing my make up is strangely relaxing and satisfying. Mainly, though, I think it’s knowing what I actually need and being able to say no to things or put myself first. That’s taken a long time to learn.
What is your biggest achievement?
Oh, I don’t know. Probably every time I’ve been blocked my a man on twitter. I suppose there are things I’ve achieved, particularly in work environments, that I pushed myself for but I think still being here and having a much clearer sense of who I am and what I want is a pretty great achievement.
What photograph is guaranteed to make you smile?
That’s tricky. I mean, I love a dank meme and there are some that’ll always raise a smile. I’ve got a few pictures up at home of my family and friends that make me smile, but the winner is probably the photo of when Boris Johnson got stuck on that zip wire.
Who are your top three bloggers right now and why?
If you could only recommend 1 book, which would it be?
Oooff that’s a hard question! I really don’t know, it depends what people like. I haven’t really read any self help or life changing books. So, in the spirit of keeping things weird, I love I Am Legend.
What question would you like to ask next months blogger?
Hmm… If you could make a living solely from blogging, would you do it?
Thank you so much Lindsay! Be sure to check her out on her socials.
Stay tuned for my final Blogger of the Month of 2019!
