I truly believe one of the most important parts of blogging is supporting other bloggers.
With that in mind, I’ve started a monthly series where I will feature a different blogger each time so you can all get to know some of my favourite people to follow!
Introduce yourself and your blog!
I’m Ida. About two years ago I became seriously ill with depression. This took me to attempt suicide, got me hospitalised and on the road towards recovery I’m still walking now. My blog is called Around the Ward in 80 Days, because that’s exactly how long I was hospitalised for. It doesn’t really have theme, it’s a mix of mental health-related things. Some heavier, some lighter.
Why did you start your blog?
I have always understood the world through writing but getting ill and the self-discovery that followed it was something so out there it felt impossible to understand.
I started the blog as an outlet for myself but I also wanted my experiences to matter. I feel like I have been given a second chance in life so I want to also help other people. Maybe in a large scheme of things, in a very small way, I can help change the sequence of events and somebody else wouldn’t have to go into the same dark place as me.
How would you describe your blogging style?
Snarky autobiographical rambles.
What is your favourite post that you’ve ever written and why?
I have a hard time thinking of my writing like that, because it’s literally what’s in my head at the time. Then I move on to other things.
I feel a special tenderness towards posts I have written of my grandparents (Sirius, Borrowed and Broken) and great-nan (Heartfelt greetings, mother). I’ve never known any of them so those posts are my love letters to them.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve got to share about blogging?
Only you can choose how much you share in your blog. Set your own boundaries and stick to them. You don’t owe anyone anything.
What is your favourite thing about yourself?
I’m really fucking resilient. I’ve been through the unthinkable and here I still am. I can be called a lot of things but weak I’m not.
What is your favourite self care activity?
I always treat myself after a counselling session with things like a muffin or a coffee and have been SO pleased to find out that other people have been inspired by the idea. We don’t pay enough homage to the fact that we can choose our treats as adults.
What is your biggest achievement?
What photograph is guaranteed to make you smile?
A photo I keep on my night stand of my dog looking like baby Jesus in a manger.
Who are your top three bloggers right now and why?
I don’t like to rate people in this way but I have some badass pals who blog, such as Lindsay @Seedsinthewaste and Nicole @justabelfastgirl and Nicole Eloise @nicoleeloisee. Such babes.
If you could travel to any point in time, where would you go and why?
To 1950s Hollywood so I could use some of their hair products and try to seduce Gene Kelly.
What question would you like to ask next months blogger?
What is your favourite word?
Thank you so much Ida!
Stay tuned for October’s blogger of the month!
