There are many, many things about the festive season that make it difficult for people who have eating disorders, some of which I will talk about in future posts.
One way that you can help anyone struggling with an eating disorder at Christmas time is involving them in the holiday as much as possible while relieving some of the pressure around food. So much of the whole festive period is about food, starting right at the start of December with advent calendars, which is why I’ve made a list of alternative advent calendars without a chocolate in sight. Help your loved one get into the festive spirit and reduce some of their anxiety by considering something different for them this year. The calendars range from budget to more luxury so there should be something for everyone!
Additionally – you might know someone who just isn’t a chocolate fan! Or you yourself might not be and want to drop a hint or two about what other options are out there.
12 days of stationary including stickers, washi tape and post it notes.
This is a really cute one – it’s full of little Christmas stamps that can be used to personalise cards or Christmas wrapping.
Includes lots of mini stationary items including pens and notepads.
Disney themed bath and body mini’s such as body lotion and bubble bath.
Something a little different than the usual beauty calendars, this one is full of mini perfumes of all different scents.
Full of Soap and Glory best sellers.
Lots of tequila minis from all different brands.
Includes tonics as well as different types of gin.
This calendar doesn’t contain any actual prosecco, but is full of items to jazz your drinks up including different flavoured balls to add, edible glitter and pretty accessories.
A selection of various types and flavours of tea.
This calendar folds out into a colouring page – I don’t know about you but I love a bit of therapeutic colouring.
Disney Bauble Calendar
This can only be bought in store at Primark so there’s no link, but it contains lots of mini Disney themed tree decorations.
This is by far the most original idea I have come across! Each day contains a little print for your house and some of the designs are beautiful!
Each day is gives you a different coffee blend.
This calendar contains festively scented tea lights.
I hope you’ve got some good ideas for alternatives – there’s so many more out there as well outside of the few favourites I’ve chosen!
