Just before I went on holiday, I had a nomination from the lovely Hannah at My Mental Health Recovery Road for a Sunshine Award!
I didn’t get around to doing it before I went, and then when I got back I had another one, much to my surprise, from Oddball Content! I’m so grateful – I really never expected this blog to go anywhere but I have a small and generous audience now which I couldn’t be more thrilled about.
Each nomination comes with 11 questions but some of them were very similar so I merged a couple together. I’ve nominated 11 of my favourite bloggers at the bottom – please go and check them out, they’re all wonderful!
When did you start your blog and why did you start it?
I started it in September last year, so around 5 months ago. I wanted to join the movement of people who are trying to raise awareness of mental health problems, break down stigma and end discrimination.
Do your friends and family know you blog?
Some do, some don’t. I only advertise it on twitter so if they follow me on twitter they might’ve seen it. I don’t bring it up though. It feels easier to share when I know it’s mostly strangers who read it, I find it kind of weird knowing that there are people I know reading!
What is your favourite animal?
Cats are the number one! But I also love rabbits, foxes and pandas.
Have you got a bucket list? If so name 3 things on your bucket list!
They’re pretty much all travel related. See the northern lights in Iceland. Return to the Philippines. Volunteer abroad again.
Which post on your blog are you most proud of?
I have two, my one on World Mental Health Day and on Time To Talk Day. I had such kind feedback from people and I’m so grateful for all the people who supported me, especially with my Time To Talk Day post. You’re all amazing and it was a privilege hearing and sharing everyone’s stories.
Is their a meaning to the name of your blog?
It just summarises my mental health really, being in recovery from an eating disorder and living with a mood disorder.
What would you like to achieve by the end of the year?
Personally, I’d like to have seen a couple more countries and explored some more. Blog wise – it’s ambitious but I’d like to have 500 followers. Professionally, I’d like to have had or be near a promotion.
Where do you see yourself in 1, 5 and 10 years?
Great question! Still working as a mental health nurse in CAMHS but maybe trained in some sort of therapy. Checking more countries off my list. More tattoos. Married. Still doing amazing things with my friends all the time.
What is your dream job?
I have my dream job! I absolutely love it and at the moment I can’t imagine being anywhere else.
What makes you happy when having a bad day?
My boyfriend, my pets, and my best friends. If I need to pick myself up I paint my nails, do some cross stitch or colouring, or bake something nice.
What is your favourite time of the year?
Summer through and through, however English summers are terrible generally! If there’s not much good weather going on, then definitely Christmas. I ADORE Christmas and it’s the only thing that makes winter bearable!
What is your proudest achievement?
In 2016 I won a National nursing award which funded my working visit to the Philippines. That was an incredible opportunity and winning kind of encapsulated how hard I had worked in my studies but also in my recovery to get to the point where I was not only well enough to do my degree, but to excel at it. I never could’ve pictured myself in that position even just 2 or 3 years before.
Apart from blogging, what are your hobbies?
I like anything creative: colouring, sewing, cross stitch, interior design, painting. I also like to read, got to gigs and see my friends on the rare occasions that we have days off at the same time.
How would you describe your fashion style?
Variable I guess! Some days I’ll be in trackies and a hoodie, others I’ll be in bright dresses. I’d say typically leggings or skinny jeans and a loose jumper or slogan tshirt would be my day to day outfit, and you can often find me in a beanie.
What’s the best place you’ve ever been to?
The Philippines! My heart will always belong to that country where I had my very first solo adventure.
If you had £1000 what would you spend it on? Or would you save it?
Either a holiday or tattoos – my two favourite things!
What is the bravest thing you’ve ever done? What would you do if you were a little braver?
There’s two things I guess. One is travelling somewhere on my own for the first time. Two is speaking publicly about my mental health; both of which have been life changing for me. If I was braver, I’d travel properly alone across different countries!
What is/was your favourite class at school, college or university?
My favourite classes at school were always English and Art – we didn’t really have classes at uni as such!
What is one thing you want to learn or change in 2018?
I’d like to keep learning as much about my job as I can. I’d also like to learn to be kinder to myself which is a very difficult skill but one I’m confident I can achieve.
